It is able to stop blood flow from an artery or vein when applied above a wounded extremity. Since its introduction into the US army, mortality rates from limb blood loss have fallen by 85%. Uses a winch system with a free moving internal band. This applies pressure around the limb and can be tightened until bleeding stops. The winch system is then locked in place, and a Velcro strap can be applied to secure the device while the patient is moved.
